TIMELINE is a game inspired by the "many worlds" theory in quantum mechanics, that essentially posits that there are many "worlds" or universes that are constantly being created and potentially destroyed on parallel timelines. Overall gameplay is also heavily influenced by the early arcade cabinets from the 1980s, including Gravitar and Tempest. The idea came out of the theme from the February 2025 Brackey's Game Jam, "Nothing can go wrong". During the game the player controls a "Time Jockey", which is tasked with accompanying a continually moving and evolving timeline, while avoiding red "anomalies". Every time the player collides with an anomalies another timeline branch is created, which will continue to track alongside the original timeline. As branches accumulate, creating alternative timelines, eventually a paradox will be created on the original timeline. When too many paradoxes occur the original timeline will become unstable and collapse on itself, destroying that universe and everything within it. Paradoxes cannot be undone, but pink "correction points"  occasionally appear and when a player collides with one it will "correct" or delete one of the alternative timeline branches.

Controls:

The game is configured to use both keyboard (arrow keys  and A/D) for left and right. The game will also work with a game controller. So far I've tested both wireless XBox style controllers, and wired PS4 style with no issues. A mouse is necessary for the Start menu. Pressing the spacebar at the end of the game will return you to the scroll/start screen.

The game was created using Unity, and all assets were created by me with the exception of these excellent assets available in the Unity Store:

Shapeforms Audio Free Sound Effects

Stylized Fonts - Sci-Fi
